The 1997 Super Bowl accident.

NEW ORLEANS - A broken or improperly used hoist appears to have caused the accident that killed a bungee jumper during a final rehearsal for the Super Bowl's halftime show, The Times-Picayune reported Saturday.Laura Patterson had completed a second practice jump Thursday when her cord snapped her back toward the Superdome's ceiling. She bounced a second time and was to have been lowered to the floor on the third, when the cord unwound suddenly and she fell, an unidentified police investigator told the newspaper.
The show has been altered to delete the bungee jumping in the aftermath of the death of the 43-year-old resident of Sarasota, Fla. She jumped from more than 100 feet in the air, making contact with the Superdome floor near the football field's 50-yard line.
Eddie Chelette, a volunteer stagehand, said nine jumpers were rehearsing the stunt from the uppermost terrace level, about 100 feet above the floor.
''She jumped and, when she came back up, she was limp,'' he said. ''She hit her head hard.''
Patterson died instantly of a brain injury, coroner Frank Minyard said Friday.

Hey guys,
The Crrrraaaaazy Joe's Internet Bungee Jump thing is, right now, not politically correct considering the recent accident at the Super Bowl intermission rehearsals.

Dear Jeff,
Here's our politically correct answer: "The wwwVOice staff extends it's deepest sympathies to the jumper's family and hopes that this tragedy can at least help make the future of bungee jumping safer" but honest, we had nothing to do with it.
